La Catrina, the Beautiful Charrita, is an excellent example of Mexican papier-mâché craftsmanship inspired by charro costumes and traditional Mexican iconography, giving her a distinctive and folkloric air.
The skull is painted in black and white with large black eyes that give it an innocent or surprised expression. Its hands are fleshless and its neck is long, characteristic of the original Catrina, which symbolizes elegance over death.
Her figure is upright and formal. Her attire evokes a work or country outfit with traditional Mexican influence: she wears a short jacket or bolero in light brown or tan. The most notable detail is the gold buttons along the front of the vest. Her bell-shaped skirt is decorated with large red roses and green leaves, and she wears a black sash, very common in Mexican folk art and textiles.
He wears a large, wide-brimmed black hat elegantly adorned with gold dots or details, resembling a charro hat, further underscoring the folkloric, country theme.
