This beautiful Catrina, called “The Black Monarch,” is distinguished by its natural theme and symbolic connection, as monarch butterflies are a crucial symbol on the Day of the Dead, based on the belief that the Monarchs arrive in Mexico in the fall and carry the souls of the deceased.

Her attire is formal, but with a folkloric and symbolic touch reflected in her long, voluminous black dress, with a short-sleeved blouse where the most important detail is the multiple orange and black Monarch butterflies that adorn both the torso and the skirt.

As accessories, she wears a thin orange belt with black dots or a design that matches the color of the butterflies; and a wide-brimmed, matte black hat, simple in design, allowing the butterflies to be the focus of attention.

Her skull, which is the most distinctive feature of a catrina, is painted with the eye sockets highlighted in orange or a light shade, and facial makeup that follows the traditional style, but with simplicity.
