“La Tehuana” is a Catrina inspired by the traditional clothing of the indigenous women of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca.
She wears a long, prominently pleated skirt or petticoat in an intense dark red color and a white, tight-fitting blouse or huipil with a floral border in primary colors such as red, yellow, blue, and green that contrasts with the red of the skirt.
She wears a black rebozo or shawl over her shoulders, sculpted to appear puffy and draped, adding a touch of mystery and elegance. Her hair is black, sculpted in braids or an updo adorned with red flowers on top.
Her skull-like face is traditional, with large eye sockets and a grinning mouth baring teeth, painted in fine detail. La Catrina has an upright posture and her arms and hands are articulated, with one of them in an open gesture, giving her an air of dignity.
