Collection: Catrinas and handmade figures made of paper mache and clay.
La Catrina, one of Mexico's most recognizable symbols, originated in José Guadalupe Posada's engraving, where she was called "La Calavera Garbancera." Her elegant attire served as a satire on the privileged classes.
Later, muralist Diego Rivera immortalized her in his work and gave her the name we know her by today: La Catrina. Since then, she has become an icon of the Day of the Dead, representing Mexican identity, ingenuity, and tradition to the world.
Paper mache and clay have given life to a wide variety of crafts that go beyond the Catrinas: from wooden masks with religious motifs to endearing "calacas" of pets, such as dogs and cats.
At MEDIA LUNA, Handcraft, Silver & More, we invite you to discover our collection of Catrinas and handcrafted figurines, crafted with dedication and talent by Mexican artisans. Each piece is a work of art imbued with history, tradition, and festive spirit.
